WINDSOR, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the St. Clair Saints on Saturday.
In the opening set, the Saints built an early four-point lead before Mohawk battled back to tie it at 21-21. The Mountaineers fought off set point at 24-23 and held set point twice themselves, but St. Clair prevailed 31-29 in an extended frame.
St. Clair maintained a slight edge early in the second set and later stretched the gap to 17-9. Mohawk was unable to recover, dropping the set 25-15.
The Saints jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third and pushed it to 11-1 before Mohawk mounted a brief rally. The comeback fell short as St. Clair closed out the set 25-17 to complete the sweep.
Maggie Galand (Burlington, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with seven kills.
Mohawk will look to rebound on Nov. 5 when it visits the Redeemer Royals at 6 p.m. in Ancaster, Ont.
