HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Fanshawe Falcons in a tightly contested match on Saturday.
Both teams traded points throughout the opening set, with Mohawk staying within striking distance but unable to take the lead. Fanshawe pulled ahead late with a four-point run, closing out the first set 25-22.
Mohawk came out strong in the second set, holding multiple leads including a three-point edge. The teams traded points and leads, with the Mountaineers up 20-18 before Fanshawe rallied once again. Tied at 23-23, the Falcons scored back-to-back points to take the set 25-23.
The Falcons opened the third set with a 3-1 lead and maintained control throughout. Mohawk was unable to mount a significant rally and dropped the final set 25-21.
Despite the loss, Dean Zicari set a career high with 20 kills. Alex Jurak added 11 kills and nine digs.
The Mountaineers will look to rebound when they host the Humber Hawks on Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.
