HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team dropped their fourth straight match Saturday, falling 3-0 to the No. 1 nationally ranked Humber Hawks.
Humber took control early, building an 8-3 lead in the first set. Mohawk responded with four straight points, but the Hawks quickly restored their five-point cushion at 13-8 and continued to pull away, taking the set 25-14.
The Mountaineers stayed within a point through the early stages of the second set before Humber once again asserted itself, moving ahead 13-8 and forcing a Mohawk timeout. The pause did little to shift momentum as the Hawks claimed the set 25-16.
The third set was the most competitive of the match, with the teams deadlocked at 15-15 midway through. After Humber scored twice, Mohawk called a timeout and answered with a point, but the Hawks countered with three straight and closed out the match with a 25-20 win.
Avery McConkey (Stratford, Ont.) led Mohawk with eight kills.
The Mountaineers return to action Nov. 26 when they visit the Niagara Knights at 6 p.m.
