Mountaineers lose backend of back-to-back

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team end their two-game weekend with a 99-88 loss to the Lambton Lions.

Three minutes into the game the Mountaineers fell behind 8-3, but would find their rhythm to tie the game 11-11. However, a 9-3 run to close out the quarter gave the Lions a 29-22 advantage.

Playing from behind again, Mohawk cut the deficit to three with 7:22 left in the half, but Lambton responded as they grew their lead to 15. At halftime, the Lions led 54-44.

It was late in the third quarter when the Mountaineers made yet another run, cutting the Lions lead to four before the fourth quarter.

A Jailen Jackson (Hamilton, Ont.) three brought Lambton's lead down to 72-71. Then with 6:01 remaining, an Eltom Adam and-one gave Mohawk an 80-79 lead. The Lions immediately answered and regained the lead and led 91-84 with 1:23 remaining. There would be no more offensive pushes for Mohawk as they would ultimately be handed the loss.

Marko Dosen (Hamilton, Ont.) had a double-double in the game for the Mountaineers with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Jackson and Adam finished the contest with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Mohawk will look to get back in the win column on February 5 when they travel to London, Ont. to play the Fanshawe Falcons at 8 p.m.
