SUDBURY, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team saw their season come to an end in the OCAA Quarter-Final round, suffering a 3-1 loss to the No. 15 nationally ranked Cambrian Shield.

This marked the eighth consecutive loss for Mohawk against Cambrian dating back to the 2022-23 season, including two playoff defeats.

The Mountaineers established a four-point lead early in the first set, but Cambrian quickly evened the score at 11-11. The two teams remained tied at 13-13, but the Shield seized control from that point onward. Trailing 21-16, Mohawk called a timeout and responded with four straight points to narrow the gap to one. The Mountaineers were in position to extend the set, down 24-23, but Cambrian secured the next point to take a 1-0 match lead.

Mohawk came out strong in the second set, and this time they would not relinquish their lead. After going up 10-8, the Mountaineers won eight of the next 10 points to extend their advantage to seven. Mohawk closed out the set 25-17, evening the match at 1-1.

In set three, Cambrian took a 5-4 lead and never relinquished it. The Mountaineers fought hard to close the gap, cutting it to one at 13-12 and again at 14-13, but could not gain the momentum needed to take the lead. The Shield won the set 25-18 to take a 2-1 match lead.

Mohawk called an early timeout in the fourth set after falling behind 7-3. The Mountaineers fought back to within one, but that was as close as they would get. Cambrian closed out the set 25-21, and with it, the Mountaineers' playoff run came to an end.

This was the second time in the last three seasons that Mohawk has advanced to the quarterfinals or beyond in the OCAA playoffs. They finished the 2024-25 regular season with an 8-10 record.
