HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team heads into the OCAA playoffs with momentum, closing out their regular season with a two-game win streak. In their season finale, the Mountaineers dominated the Canadore Panthers, 91-56.
Both teams had a sluggish offensive start, with Mohawk shooting just 33.3 per cent from the field in the first quarter, while Canadore struggled even more at 27.3 per cent. The Mountaineers held a narrow 16-13 lead after the opening frame.
In the second quarter, Mohawk found its rhythm offensively, shooting 63.2 per cent from the field. The Mountaineers took an 11-point lead into halftime.
Despite a drop in shooting percentage in the third quarter, Mohawk continued to outplay Canadore, outscoring them 22-14 to extend their lead to 19 points.
The Mountaineers capped off the game with a dominant 14-2 run, outscoring the Panthers 25-9 in the final frame to seal the 35-point victory.
Eltom Adam (Hamilton, Ont.) led the way with a career-high 26 points, shooting 11-of-20 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from three. Marko Dosen contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, while Raivone Young added 12 points.
Mohawk finishes the 2024-25 regular season with an 11-7 record, securing the fourth seed in the OCAA West Division.
The Mountaineers will host the Centennial Colts in the OCAA qualifying round at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on February 15 at 3:30 p.m.
