Mohawk College Athletics announces Hall of Fame Class of 2025

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk College's Department of Athletics and Recreation is proud to welcome nine new members to the Mountaineers Hall of Fame. The Class of 2025 features five standout athletes, two of the most decorated coaches in Mohawk history, a long serving sports information officer and a former college president.
 
The induction ceremony will take place on November 29, where each honouree's name will be officially cemented in Mountaineers history.
 
ATHLETE INDUCTEES
  • Trevor McLaughlin (men's volleyball, 2012-2017)
  • Steve Pawelczyk (men's volleyball, 2005-2009)
  • Jennifer Knowles (women's volleyball, 2009-2011 & 2018-2019)
  • Chris VanSickle (men's rugby, 2009-2011)
  • Taylor Downhaniuk (men's basketball, 2010-2015)
McLaughlin, Pawelczyk, and Knowles each earned CCAA All-Canadian honours during their careers. VanSickle was a two-time OCAA Men's Rugby Scoring Champion, helped capture the 2009 OCAA Championship, and was named OCAA Rugby Athlete of the Year. Downhaniuk was a defensive force, contributing to two OCAA Men's Basketball Championship teams.
 
COACH INDUCTEES
  • Brian Jonker – Head Coach, Men's Basketball (18 years, 17 seasons)
  • Alex Paris – Head Coach, Men's Rugby (13 seasons)
Jonker, recently inducted into the OCAA Hall of Fame, is Mohawk's all-time leader in regular season coaching wins (180). His tenure included two OCAA Championships, five conference medals, and the program's only CCAA National Championship.
 
Paris led the men's rugby program to 60 victories, seven OCAA medals, and three OCAA Championships, earning OCAA Men's Rugby Coach of the Year four times.
 
BUILDER INDUCTEES
  • Al Craig – Sports Information Officer (2003-2019)
  • Keith McIntyre – Mohawk College President (1980-1996)
Craig, a nationally recognized sports reporter and announcer before joining Mohawk, elevated the visibility of Mountaineer Athletics across Ontario and beyond. For 16 years, he championed the Mohawk athletes with passion and professionalism across all media platforms.
 
McIntyre was a strong advocate for Athletics during the formative years of sport at Mohawk. Serving 17 years as president, he was later named President Emeritus for his distinguished service. Today, the Dr. Keith McIntyre Leadership Award is presented annually to a Mountaineer student-athlete in his honour.
 
With their induction, these nine outstanding individuals will join 85 previous honourees, bringing the Mountaineers Hall of Fame to 94 members, alongside seven varsity teams.
 
Detailed biographies of each inductee will be released in November, leading up to the Hall of Fame ceremony.
