Mountaineers men’s soccer drop season opener to Bruins

OAKVILLE, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer team opened the 2025 OCAA regular season with a 1-0 loss to the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday.
 
Sheridan carried much of the play in the opening half and was awarded a penalty in the ninth minute after a foul in the box. Mohawk goalkeeper Marco Ferrusi (Hamilton, Ont.) turned aside the spot kick and both ensuing rebounds to keep the match level.
 
Ferrusi finished with a career-high eight saves, but the Bruins eventually broke through in the 81st minute. Sheridan outshot Mohawk 14-6.
 
The Mountaineers return to action Sept. 12 when they host the Redeemer Royals at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
