HAMILTON, Ont. – Six Mohawk Mountaineers scored in double digits as the men's basketball team snapped a two-game skid with a 94-74 victory over the Redeemer Royals.

Mohawk set the tone early, opening the game on an 18-2 run highlighted by four three-pointers in the first four minutes. After Redeemer halted the surge with a jump shot, the Mountaineers responded with a 10-0 run to build a 28-4 lead and carried a 35-11 advantage after the opening quarter.

The Royals mounted a second-quarter push, trimming the deficit to 46-36 with 1:08 remaining before halftime. Mohawk regrouped to take a 49-36 lead into the break.

A 10-3 run to begin the third quarter restored the Mountaineers' 20-point cushion and proved decisive, as Redeemer was unable to close the gap the rest of the way.

Mohawk held a 39-28 edge on the glass and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 36 points off Royals miscues.

Iverson Chong (Oakville, Ont.) and Scott Jenkins (Hamilton, Ont.) led the way with 16 points apiece. Jerry Jr. Mercury (Scarborough, Ont.) and Marko Dosen (Hamilton, Ont.) added 13 points each, while Kazim Raza (Markham, Ont.) finished with 12. Jailen Jackson (Hamilton, Ont.) chipped in 11 points off the bench.

The Mountaineers begin a three-game road swing on Jan. 16 in Sarnia, Ont., where they will face the Lambton Lions. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
