HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team saw its four-game win streak come to an end Sunday, falling 3-0 to the Sault Cougars.
The opening set was tight early before Sault pulled ahead with a 17-13 lead. Mohawk called a timeout, but the Cougars maintained control and closed out the set 25-22.
Set two was also close at the start, with the teams tied 12-12. Sault then went on a run to take an 18-12 advantage. The Mountaineers were unable to recover and dropped the set 25-16.
The Cougars jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set. Mohawk battled back and cut the deficit to one several times, including at 23-22, but could not draw even as Sault secured the match with a 25-22 win.
Kyrah Cameron (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with 27 assists and added 12 digs. Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, Ont.) also recorded 12 digs.
Mohawk hits the road for its next match, visiting the Humber Hawks on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in Etobicoke, Ont.
