LONDON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team closed the 2025-26 regular season with a five-set victory Saturday, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons 3-2.
Fanshawe took early control of the opening set with a 10-6 lead, but Mohawk responded to tie the score at 17-17. The Mountaineers pulled ahead 21-18 and closed out the set 25-21.
Mohawk led 9-4 early in the second set before Fanshawe went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-11 advantage. The Falcons maintained momentum and evened the match with a 25-16 win.
The Mountaineers again jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set and later extended the margin to five. Fanshawe battled back to tie the score at 19-19. With the set tied 22-22, the Falcons scored three straight points to take a 25-22 win and a 2-1 match lead.
In the fourth set, Mohawk trailed 19-15 and later 22-17, but responded with seven consecutive points to force a fifth set, winning 25-22.
Mohawk carried that momentum into the deciding set, opening with a 3-0 lead and going into the side switch ahead 8-4. The Mountaineers extended the lead to 13-5 and secured the match with a 15-7 victory.
Avery McConkey (Stratford, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with 18 kills. Kyrah Cameron (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.), Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, Ont.) and Olivia Rosewell (Hamilton, Ont.) all had 13 digs each.
Mohawk finishes the regular season 6-10 and will enter the OCAA West Division playoffs as the eighth seed.
The Mountaineers will travel to King City, Ont., on Feb. 14 for the OCAA qualifying round against the East Division champion and No. 3 nationally ranked Seneca Sting. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
