(HAMILTON) – Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer have found themselves in the win column following a close 3-2 win over the Niagara Knights.
The Mountaineers fell behind 1-0 only three minutes into the match, but Hamza Salman (Hamilton, ON) tied it up just over a minute later. Mohawk and Niagara would head into halftime tied 1-1.
Out of the locker room the Knights found themselves down a man following a red card, but regained the lead in the 58th minute. Once again the Mountaineers answered quickly with a Luc Sabatino (hamilton, ON) 62nd minute goal.
Continuing to play with a man-advantage Mohawk took their first lead of the match in the 68th minute as Salman scored his second of the match and the game-winner. Blake Ellis (Hamilton, ON) assisted on the final two Mohawk goals.
"I think the best thing is that our team stayed together and we played strong," said Salman. "Nobody gave up which was really important."
Oliver Steinke (Dundas, ON) was stellar in net, highlighted by a 90th minute save that allowed the Mountaineers to hold onto their lead and the win.
"It was very entertaining, nerve-racking and draining to watch as a coach, but I'm overall happy with the performance tonight," said head coach Jordan Brown.
Mohawk will next play the Humber Hawks on the road on Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. The game can be streamed on OCAA Live.
