Playoff preview: Mountaineers look to upset No. 10 Condors in OCAA quarterfinals

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer team will play in its first OCAA quarterfinal since 2016, facing the nationally ranked No. 10 Conestoga Condors.

Mohawk earned its spot in the quarterfinal after a dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over the Centennial Colts in the crossover round. The Mountaineers rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the second half to tie the match and force extra time. Both sides were reduced to 10 players following red cards before Mohawk netted the winner in the 109^th minute.

Conestoga advanced after a dominant 9-0 win over the Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves, outshooting their opponent 46-1 in the opening round.

Season recap
Mohawk's three-goal performance against Centennial marked its highest offensive output of the season. The Mountaineers ranked tied for 12^th in the OCAA in goals scored, but their defensive play was a strength, finishing tied for sixth in goals against.

Conestoga, meanwhile, has allowed only four goals all season – tied for the fewest in the conference – and scored four or more goals in a match on four occasions. One of those came in a 4-0 win over Mohawk on Sept. 27, when the Condors built a 3-0 first-half lead before sealing the result late in the second.

The Mountaineers will look to reverse recent history, having dropped seven straight matches against the Condors. Mohawk's last win over Conestoga came on Oct. 15, 2016.
