HAMILTON, Ont. – Marco Ferrusi has been recognized as one of the top goalkeepers in the province, earning OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star honours, the conference announced Friday.
The second-year student-athlete took over full-time duties as Mohawk's starting goalkeeper this season and quickly proved he belonged. In his first start, Ferrusi set a new career high with eight saves, then surpassed that mark in his next outing with nine.
Ferrusi appeared in 10 matches, ranking fourth in the OCAA with 56 saves. His .789 save percentage was the third best among goalkeepers with at least seven games played.
Ferrusi helped lead the Mountaineers to a playoff victory over the Centennial Colts, where he made nine saves in a 3-2 extra-time win. Mohawk will visit the Conestoga Condors in the OCAA quarterfinals on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
Ferrusi is the second Mohawk goalkeeper in the past three seasons to earn all-star recognition.
