Playoff preview: Mountaineers visit Colts in OCAA playoff crossover

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer team is back in the OCAA playoffs for a third straight season, and for the first time since 2021, they hold a seed higher than seventh.

Mohawk secured the sixth seed in the OCAA West Division with a 1-4-5 record and will visit the Centennial Colts, the East Division's No. 3 seed at 6-2-2, in Scarborough, Ont. The Mountaineers will look to earn their first playoff victory since 2016.

SEASON RECAP
While Mohawk matched its win total from last season, the team doubled its point total with five draws. The Mountaineers made significant strides defensively, allowing just 14 goals this year after conceding 37 in 2024 – the fourth-best mark in the West.

All four of Mohawk's losses came against the division's top four teams. The Mountaineers faced both St. Clair (No. 3 seed) and Sheridan (No. 4 seed) twice, earning draws in their other meetings. Mohawk also picked up ties against Redeemer, Fanshawe and Niagara.

Centennial enters the playoffs having dropped two of its final four matches, both losses coming against the top two teams in the East Division. The Colts' two draws were against the Cambrian Shield.
Offensively, Centennial ranked fourth in the OCAA with 34 goals scored, while defensively they allowed just 13 – nearly identical to Mohawk's total.

Last season, the Colts advanced to the OCAA quarterfinals before being eliminated by the Humber Hawks – the same team that ended Mohawk's playoff run a round earlier.
