Mountaineers sweep Bruins on home court

Box Score HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team improved their record to 7-0 after defeating the Sheridan Bruins 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17).

Mohawk started the match scoring the first seven points of the first set. Sheridan would answer by cutting the lead to four, but the Mountaineers had all the rhythm as they took a 16-9 lead. Leading 24-13, Mohawk allowed Sheridan to get within eight but then shut the door.

Set two started with the Mountaineers jumping out to an 8-2 lead. The Bruins swung things around to cut the Mohawk lead to 12-10. With the Mountaineers would continue to extend their lead, the Bruins would then get back within two at 20-18. Mohawk did not get phased as they scored five of the next eight to take a 2-0 match lead.

In set three, the Mountaineers again got out to a big lead, going up 9-1. Mohawk grew their lead to 10 points and would hold that for most of the set, easily ending the match in a clean sweep.

Olivia Rosewell (Hamilton, Ont.) led the Mountaineers with 13 kills and had eight digs. Alora Lavallee (Milton, Ont.) ran a smooth offense for 25 assists.

Mohawk will host the No. 4 nationally ranked Humber Hawks for their next match. Both teams will enter the contest with a 7-0 record. The game will take place Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.
