Mountaineers win streak ends at seven

Box Score HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball saw their seven-game win streak come to an end following a 3-0 (12-25, 19-25, 20-25) loss to the No. 4 nationally ranked Humber Hawks.

Both the Mountaineers and Hawks entered the match with a perfect 7-0 record.

It was a slow start for Mohawk in the opening set, falling behind 8-2. Humber would extend their lead to 17-5 to take full control of the first set.

The Mountaineers had the early second set lead at 6-4 and their biggest of the set at 13-10. At this time the Hawks would score nine of the next 10 points to take a convincing 19-14 lead. Mohawk was unable to decrease the deficit falling behind 2-0 in the match.

Set three saw back and forth play between the two undefeated teams as they were even at 17-17. The Hawks took control after a 19-19 tie, scoring the next five points to set up match point. Mohawk got the set within four, but lost the match on a Humber kill that went off the Mountaineers blockers and out.

Both Maggie Galand (Burlington, Ont.) and Olivia Rosewell (Hamilton, Ont.) finished the contest with five kills each. Alora Lavallee (Milton, Ont.) provided 18 assists in three sets.

Mohawk will look to bounce back at home on Nov. 22 when they host the No. 11 St. Clair Saints for a 6 p.m. start.
