Double victory for Mountaineers men’s curling on day two of Nationals

Mohawk only one of three men’s teams to remain undefeated

FEDERICTON, NB – After day two of the 2024 CCAA/Curling Canada College Championships, Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling is one of three teams to remain undefeated.

The Mountaineers began their day with an 8-5 victory over the Sault Cougars. Mohawk has now defeated Sault four times in 2024.

It wasn't an easy win for the Mountaineers however, as the two teams played back and forth for a majority of the game. After the seventh end Mohawk and Sault were tied 5-5.

The Mountaineers would score two in the eighth end and score one in the ninth to secure the win.

In match two Mohawk got tested again by the Red Deer Kings. The two teams would be tied 3-3 after six ends, but the Mountaineers took control with five points in the seventh and shut the door with one point in the eighth end. Mohawk would go on to win 9-3.

Through two days of Nationals the Mountaineers are a perfect 3-0.

Over on the women's side, Mohawk had a tough day with a couple of losses moving them to 0-3 in the tournament.

The Mountaineers played a strong game versus the Augustana Vikings, but Mohawk surrendered seven points in the fifth end. That would be a costly end for Mohawk as they fell 13-2.

In game two of the day the Mountaineers women found themselves in a deficit again versus the Humber Hawks. Mohawk would lose the contest 14-2.

Despite being 0-3, the Mountaineers women's team will look for a couple victories on Mar. 14 when they play PACWEST at 7:30 a.m. and Concordia Thunder at 3:30 p.m. Both PACWEST and the Thunder are 2-1 so far in the tournament.

For the Mohawk men's team, they will open day three versus the 1-2 Thunder at 11:30 a.m. Then their 7:30 p.m. matchup will be a rematch of the 2024 OCAA Championship when they play the Humber Hawks, who are also 3-0 at Nationals after two days.
