Mountaineers claim silver medal at CCAA Nationals

Mohawk loses on final stone to Humber

FEDERICTON, NB  - Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling have claimed CCAA silver for the second time in program history.

The Mountaineers matched up versus the Humber Hawks in the 2024 CCAA/Curling Canada College Championship, a rematch of the last four OCAA Championships.

Mohawk opened the scoring with one point in the first end. After a blank second end Humber would score two in the third and one point in both the fourth and fifth ends to lead 4-1.

The Mountaineers would bounce back in a big way with a point in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie the match 4-4.

However, Mohawk would face adversity again as Humber took a 6-4 lead through eight ends.

In the ninth end, the Mountaineers had one point locked up, but an official had to be called to measure a potential second point for Mohawk. The rock would go in favour of the Mountaineers as the two teams were tied again, 6-6.

In the 10th end with Humber holding hammer, Mohawk had two rocks close to the button with another setup as a blocker. The Hawks with their last rock were able to knock the Mountaineers stones out of the way and take the 7-6 win.

Earlier in the day Mohawk defeated the NAIT Ooks 10-3 in the semifinals to advance to the championship.

Dating back to the 2022 season, the Mountaineers have won three OCAA Championships, and CCAA silver and bronze medals.
