Mountaineers men’s curling earn spot to CCAA National semifinals

Mohawk sits a top the men’s division with perfect record

FREDERICTON, NB – With still one round robin day remaining Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling has earned their spot into the 2024 CCAA/Curling Canada College Championship semifinals.
 
Through day three of the event the Mountaineers sit atop the college men's standings with a perfect 5-0 record.
 
Mohawk got off to a terrific start on day three, scoring five in the first two ends versus the Concordia Thunder. The Mountaineers would add one each in the fourth and seventh, as well another three in the sixth end, to defeat the Thunder 10-3.
 
Mohawk's fifth match of the bonspiel was an OCAA Championship rematch versus the Humber Hawks, as both teams had identical 4-0 records.
 
The Hawks held the advantage at 2-1 after three ends, but the Mountaineers took control after the fifth, leading 4-2. The two squads would trade single points between the sixth and eighth ends, with Mohawk holding on to a 5-4 lead.
 
In the ninth end the Mountaineers scored two to get their biggest lead of the match and go up 7-4. Mohawk would add one in the 10th to win 8-4.
 
The Mountaineers will return to action on Mar. 15 at 7:30 a.m. when they play the win-less Assiniboine Cougars, followed by a 3:30 p.m. matchup versus the 4-1 SAIT Trojans to wrap-up round robin.
 
Mohawk women's curling remain win-less at Nationals following a 9-1 loss to PACWEST and 17-1 defeat at the hands of the Concordia Thunder.
 
The Mountaineers will finish their round robin play on Mar. 15 as well, when they play the SAIT Trojans at 11:30 a.m. and the Fanshawe Falcons at 7:30 p.m.
