Mountaineers best Maple Leafs in penalty kicks

GOSHEN, INDIANA – Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer won an exciting match over the Goshen Maple Leafs to end a three-day Indiana trip. The Mountaineers and Maple Leafs ended in a 1-1 tie after full-time, requiring penalty kicks where Mohawk pulled through 7-6.

With the victory the Mountaineers finish 1-1 in their two Indiana friendlies.

It was Goshen who opened the scoring in the 37th minute, but Mohawk's Luc Sabatino (Hamilton, Ont.) would bring the match even before half with a 43rd minute goal.

A scoreless second half led to the two squads battling it out in penalty kicks. Both teams scored their first six penalties, but in the seventh round after a Mountaineers successful kick, the Maple Leafs hit the crossbar to bring the back-and-forth affair to an end.

Mohawk will return to Hamilton with one match remaining on their non-conference schedule. They will matchup versus the McMaster Marauders on Aug. 26 at Ron Joyce Stadium with kick-off at 8 p.m.
