The Mohawk Mountaineers women's softball team had a much more promising set of games on Sunday after dropping the first two the day before. The offence generated 14 total runs between two road games and had many more positives to take with them going forward in the season.

In game one against the Seneca Sting, Mountaineers pitcher Kerri Smith (Hagersville, ON) and a courageous late effort offensively led the way to a 7-1 win.

The Sting got on the board in the top of the second, while Mohawk scored all seven of their runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Emma Harker (Brantford, ON) led the way on offence with three runs batted in and five different hitters in Mohawk's starting lineup had at least a hit.

Smith was a highlight on the mound for the Mountaineers in the win as she pitched the complete game in a fantastic bounce-back effort.

Game two saw the Mountaineers maintain their offensive production, but they failed to match the scoring pace of the Durham Lords on the way to an 11-7 loss.

Mohawk was in a deficit early, trailing 7-0 at one point but fought their way back within two runs after an offensive explosion in the fourth inning.

But the pitching was once again hit hard as Olivia Thompson (Peterborough, ON) pitched a near complete game for Mohawk.

Both Smith and Harker continued strong starts to their seasons at the plate in the second game as the pair contributed five RBIs in the loss.

The Mountaineers will hope to build on their encouraging effort when they head to Mississauga, ON to play an away doubleheader against the Sheridan Bruins on Sept. 15 starting at 6 p.m.
