Box Score 2 (HAMILTON) – Mohawk Mountaineers softball dropped two games at home on Sunday, losing 17-1 to the St. Clair Saints and 10-6 to the Seneca Sting.
Game one: Mohawk 1 – St. Clair 17
The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and did not slow down after that.
Mohawk managed to score their lone run in the third inning when Rachel Lee (Drayton, ON) doubled home Kayla Makowich (Guelph, ON). In the game, Makowich was two-for-two at the plate.
Game two: Mohawk 6 – Seneca 10
In the second game, both the Mountaineers and Sting began the game with a scoreless first inning.
The Sting made the first breakthrough in the second inning, scoring a run.
Mohawk responded in the top of the third with Michaela Walker (Dundas, ON) doubling home Lee and Hope General (Six Nations) to take a 2-1 lead. Seneca would regain the lead in the bottom half, scoring two of their own.
Again, the Mountaineers responded in the top of the fourth when Kerri Smith (Hagersville, ON) hit a bases loaded single to drive home Chantal Tripp (Brampton, ON). However, Seneca scored three in the bottom half and then four in the fifth inning to take a 10-3 lead.
Mohawk would start their own rally in the sixth that started on a Tripp inside the park home run. General would then single to drive home Emily Maas (Brantford, ON) and Kayla Makowich (Guelph, ON) hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Smith. But the Mountaineers rally would be halted there as they could not complete the comeback.
Next up for Mohawk is a doubleheader on Sept. 28 versus the Sheridan Bruins at Mohawk Sports Park. Game one will begin at 6 p.m. and streamed on OCAA Live.
