Pair of Mountaineers softball athletes named OCAA All-Stars

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that Mohawk Mountaineers softball athletes Kelsea Peckham (Brantford, Ont.) and Kayla Makowich (Guelph, Ont.) have been selected as 2024 OCAA All-Stars. Both student-athletes earned spots on the conference's second team, with Peckham also being recognized on the OCAA All-Rookie Team.

In her first season with the Mountaineers, Peckham showcased her talent by appearing in 19 games and accumulating 59 at-bats. She achieved a remarkable batting average of .424, ranking 14^th in the conference. Additionally, she ranked 10^th in on-base percentage (.493), 16^th in slugging percentage (5.576), tied for fifth in home runs with two, and recorded 26 RBIs – placing her third in the OCAA.

Peckham's performance also distinguished her among first-year athletes, where she ranked sixth in batting average, fourth in on-base percentage, sixth in slugging, tied for second in home runs, and second in RBIs.

In her second season with the Mountaineers, Makowich established herself as one of the top lead-off hitters in the OCAA. She finished ninth in batting average (.441), eighth in on-base percentage (.506), fourth in slugging (.765), tied for seventh in runs scored with 25, and tied for third in extra-base hits with 14.

With her 25 runs scored, Makowich set a new Mountaineers record for single-season runs, surpassing her previous record of 24 from last season.

This marks the first time since the 2013 season that Mohawk has had multiple league all-stars.
