Dawson Brown makes history as first Mohawk Mountaineer to sign with NLL’s Georgia Swarm

HAMILTON, Ont. – Dawson Brown (Hamilton, Ont.) of the Mohawk Mountaineers men's lacrosse sixes team has signed a one-year contract with the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

Brown makes history as the first-ever Mountaineer to sign a professional NLL contract.

"I am extremely excited to have this opportunity with Georgia," Brown said. "This is a dream come true, and I'm incredibly grateful for the amazing support from family, friends and coaches who have guided me along the way."

Before joining Mohawk's lacrosse sixes program, Brown played NCAA Division II lacrosse for the Newberry College Wolves in South Carolina from 2018 to 2022.

A graduate of St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School, Brown has deep roots in the Hamilton lacrosse community, having played for the Hamilton Bengals organization. With the Bengals Jr. B program from 2016 to 2020, he earned Rookie of the Year honours and was named Defensive Player of the Year twice. Additionally, he was the team MVP at St. Thomas More in 2017.

Mohawk head coach Andy Secore, who also serves as an assistant for the Swarm, praised Brown's skills.

"With Dawson's versatility and adaptability, combined with the experience he's gained throughout his playing career, he has a legitimate shot to excel in a transition role at the professional level," Secore said.

Brown's signing comes at a pivotal moment for the Mountaineers in their inaugural year, showcasing the hard work and commitment of both the student-athletes and coaches.

"Seeing one of our college lacrosse players sign a professional deal is an incredible achievement for Dawson and our program," Secore added. "It validates dedication being put in and highlgihts the level of talent we're developing here. This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a tradition of players advancing to the next level."
