Mountaineers men’s soccer sign trio to 2024 roster

HAMILTON – Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer head coach Jordan Brown announced the signing of three student-athletes to the programs 2024 roster.

The signing class includes former U Sports athlete Christopher Paczkowski (Brantford, ON), CCAA transfer Nicholas Filipovic (Hamilton, ON) and local talent Alessandro Muza (Stoney Creek, ON).

Paczkowski played the 2021 season with the University of New Brunswick Reds of the Atlantic University Sport conference. The 6'1 striker would then spend 2022 with Rot Weiss Thalheim in Germany.

"Chris is coming to us with some great experience at both U Sports and professional levels in Europe," said Brown. "I'm excited to have him in the group and I'm sure his experience will help the rest of the team."

Filipovic was a goalkeeper for the Lakeland Rustlers in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), where he played for both their men's soccer and futsal programs. In the 2023 season, Filipovic was honoured as the ACAC Men's Soccer North Division All-Conference Goalkeeper. With the Rustlers futsal team, the 6'0 goalkeeper helped the squad earn a conference bronze medal.

"Nick was a CCAA standout keeper at his last institution, so we're really excited to add a quality, experienced keeper to the roster," Brown said.

Muza comes to Mohawk after having a very successful soccer career with St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary. In 2023, Muza was part of the Newman team that won the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference championships, and went on to earn OFSAA silver.

The 5'11 fullback also plays League 1 soccer for St. Catharines Roma.

"Alessandro showed really well through our invite only sessions and I think his quality at the back will help us improve an area we needed to get stronger at from last season," Brown said.

Paczkowski is studying Electrical Engineering at Mohawk, Filipovic is enrolled in the Accounting program and Muza will come to the college to study Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Techniques.
