Mountaineers men’s curling picks up two wins on day two of CCAA Championships

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling team secured two more victories on day two of the 2025 CCAA Championships, improving their round robin record to 3-0. Meanwhile, the Mohawk women's team remains winless after suffering two losses.

The Mountaineers men began the day with a 4-2 win over the Sault Cougars. Mohawk struck first with a point in the opening end. After a blank second end, the Cougars tied it at 1-1 in the third. The teams exchanged a single point in the fourth and fifth ends, bringing the score to 2-2. Mohawk sealed the win with two points in the sixth, and after a blank seventh, walked away with the victory.

In the second draw of the day, Mohawk dominated the Assiniboine Cougars with an 11-2 win. The Mountaineers jumped to a 5-0 lead after the first end and extended it to 6-0 after two. Assiniboine got on the board with one point in the third, but Mohawk responded with four points in the fourth, pushing the score to 10-1. The teams traded points in the fifth and sixth ends, and the Cougars conceded the game after that.

The Mohawk women's team now stands at 0-3 after an 8-3 loss to the Assiniboine Cougars and a 10-1 defeat to the Red Deer Queens.

In the first game, the Mountaineers trailed 6-1 after five ends. They managed to score two in the sixth, narrowing the gap, but Assiniboine responded with one in each of the final two ends to pull away.

In the second game, the Mountaineers were down 6-0 after two ends against the Queens. Mohawk scored a single point in the third, but Red Deer added two in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth ends. The Mountaineers conceded after the sixth end.

Day three of the championships continues on February 26, with the Mohawk men's team opening play at 2:30 p.m. against the Red Deer Kings, followed by a 10:30 p.m. game against the NAIT Ooks. The women's team will begin play at 10:30 a.m. against the Concordia Thunder, and later face PacWest at 6:30 p.m.
