Playoff Preview: Mountaineers women’s volleyball heads to Ottawa for qualifying rRound

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team enters the 2024-25 OCAA Playoffs as the west division sixth seed, setting them up for a qualifying round matchup versus the east divisions third seed La Cite Coyotes.

Action will take place on February 8 at 1 p.m. in Ottawa, Ont.

The Matchup:

Mohawk spent a majority of the 2024-25 season as a top four team in the west division after starting the season 7-0, but they'd finish the year with a 9-9 record, dropping them to the sixth seed after a three-way tie with the Cambrian Shield and Fanshawe Falcons.

La Cite started the season slow, losing four of their first six matches. However, they would ride an eight-game win streak into mid-January, setting themselves up for a top seed in the east division. In their final four games, the Coyotes went 4-1, including a win over the east's second seeded Durham Lords.

Last Meeting:

In the last two decades, Mohawk and La Cite have met once, which came in the 2010-11 OCAA playoffs opening round. The Mountaineers won that matchup 3-0, eventually advancing and losing in the OCAA bronze medal match.
