Five new faces bolster Mountaineers women’s soccer ahead of 2025 season

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer head coach Paul Giannini introduced five new student-athletes to the program, bolstering the roster ahead of the 2025 season.

Joing the Mountaineers are Madison Rodriquez (Hamilton, Ont.), Luna Lio (Burlington, Ont.), Victoria Kerr (Stoney Creek, Ont.), Rachel Guddemi (Paris, Ont.) and Brianna Beckles (Scarborough, Ont.).

Rodriquez, a 5'8 striker and winger, is a graduate of St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School and plays club soccer with Hamilton United League1. She brings valuable international experience, having competed in the 2023 IberCup in Portugal.

"Madison is a target striker who loves to score, which will help us up front this season," said Giannini. "She's very technical and skilled with both feet."

Lio, a 5'4 centre back from Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, also plays for Hamilton United and competed at the 2023 IberCup. She played a key role in helping her club win the GHSL League Cup in 2023.

"Luna will help us create opportunities from the back," said Giannini. "She's a great distributor with excellent vision."

Kerr, a 5'7 goalkeeper, brings a championship pedigree from both club soccer with Hamilton United and at the high school level with Orchard Park Secondary School. She won a Division 1 title in 2023 and a Division 2 title in 2025 at the high school level.

"Victoria is a strong addition to our goalkeeping unit," said Giannini. "She's calm under pressure and an excellent shot stopper."

Guddemi, another Hamilton United player, is a 5'2 midfielder from St. John's College.

"Rachel is a very technical centre mid with excellent vision and strong understanding of the game," said Giannini.

Beckles, a 5'7 striker from Wexford Collegiate School of the Arts, plays club soccer with Burlington SC and becomes the team's second offensive addition in this recruiting class.

"Brianna is a top-end athlete and a dangerous attacking player," said Giannini. "She's an excellent addition to our front line."

Academically, Rodriguez will study Welding Techniques, Lio is enrolled in Construction Engineering, Kerr will focus on Early Childhood Education, Guddemi will study Advertising and Marketing Communication Management, and Beckles will be enrolled in Health, Wellness and Fitness.

The Mountaineers begin exhibition play on August 16, traveling to Welland, Ont., to face the Niagara Knights. Following a three-game preseason, Mohawk will kick-off the 2025 OCAA regular season on the road against the Sheridan Bruins in Oakville, Ont., on September 6 at 12 p.m.
