Mountaineers men’s volleyball introduce 2025 recruiting class

HAMILTON, Ont. – Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball head coach Brad McClure has announced the program's 2025 recruiting class.

Set to join the Mountaineers are Benjamin Puskas (Hamilton, Ont.), Keon Ellis (Winnipeg, MB), Jesse Smith (Guelph, Ont.) and Jonathan Harasym (Barrie, Ont.).

Puskas, a 5'9 libero, comes to Mohawk after spending two seasons (2023-25) with the Algonquin College Wolves, where he appeared in 24 matches and recorded 124 digs.

"Ben brings a great attitude and coachability to both competition and training, which has already made a meaningful impact on our culture," said McClure. "We're excited to see how he continues to develop at Mohawk."

Ellis, a 6'1 left side hitter, is an out-of-province addition from St. Paul's High School in Winnipeg and the Junior Bisons club program. He was named a 2024-26 high school provincial all-star.

"We feel Keon's character, talent and overall poise make him an ideal fit for our group," said McClure. "He'll help push us forward as we continue to grow in OCAA league play."

Smith joins Mohawk from John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute, where he helped lead his team to a CWOSSA Championship and a 10th place finish at OFSAA.

"Jesse brings a high level of physicality and competitiveness to the gym," said McClure. "We're grateful he chose Mohawk for his academic and athletic journey, and we expect him to make an impact in both training and competition."

Harasym is a versatile 6'0 athlete capable of playing both libero and outside hitter. He comes to Mohawk from St. Peter's Secondary School and the Barrie Elites Phoenix club program.

"Jonathan is another athlete who brings strong character, skill and versatility," said McClure. "We believe he can contribute immediately and continue to grow with our program as his academic and athletic career evolves."

Academically, Puskas will enroll in Electrical Engineering Technologies, Ellis in Business Administration, Smith in Construction Engineering Technician, and Harasym in Civil Engineering Technician.

The Mountaineers will open the 2025-26 season at home on October 18, hosting the Redeemer Royals at 3 p.m.
