Box Score SUDBURY, Ont. –The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team fell 3-1 on the road to the Cambrian Shield on Saturday.
Cambrian took the opening set 25-11 after jumping out to an 8-3 lead, forcing a Mohawk timeout. The Shield extended their advantage to 18-8 and held on to take the set comfortably.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Cambrian building an early 8-4 lead. The Mountaineers trailed by as many as 10 points at 20-10 before dropping the set 25-15.
Mohawk responded in the third set, earning a 25-23 win to stay alive. The Mountaineers led for most of the frame before Cambrian tied it 18-18 and then moved ahead 22-21. With the score even at 23-23, Mohawk closed out the set with the final two points.
In the fourth, the Mountaineers carried their momentum early, taking a 7-2 lead and forcing a Cambrian timeout. Mohawk's advantage grew to 15-8, but the Shield stormed back with 10 straight points to go ahead 18-15. The Mountaineers cut the deficit to one, but Cambrian held on for a 25-23 win to seal the match.
Mohawk returns home for its next matchup, hosting the Sheridan Bruins on Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.
