BELLEVILLE, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team saw its season end with a 3-1 loss to the Loyalist Lancers in the OCAA qualifying round on Saturday.
Mohawk rallied late in the opening set after falling behind 23-20, tying the score at 23-23 and again after Loyalist reached set point. The Lancers closed the frame with back-to-back points to take it 26-24.
The second set was tight throughout. Mohawk held a 21-19 lead before Loyalist tied it at 22-22. The teams traded points, with Mohawk earning set point at 24-23. Loyalist answered and took a 25-24 lead, but the Mountaineers tied it again. After the Lancers reached another set point at 26-25, Mohawk scored three straight points to win the set 28-26.
Loyalist controlled the third set, leading 12-10 before scoring six consecutive points to open an 18-10 advantage. Mohawk was unable to recover, dropping the set 25-15.
The Lancers jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the fourth set, forcing a Mohawk timeout. The Mountaineers responded, cutting the deficit to 13-12 and later tying the set at 17-17. Loyalist regained the lead at 20-19 and closed the match with five straight points to end Mohawk's season.
The Mountaineers finish the 2025–26 season with a 9-7 record and exit in the opening round of the playoffs.
