Playoff Preview: Mountaineers, Lancers meet in 4-5 seed matchup

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team will try to extend its season on the road when it visits the Loyalist Lancers in an OCAA qualifying-round playoff match.

Mohawk dropped out of a home playoff position after losing two of its final three regular-season matches. The Mountaineers finished 9-7, tying Redeemer for fourth in the West Division but losing the tiebreaker.

Loyalist, meanwhile, ended the regular season tied with Algonquin at 10-6 and earned the fourth seed in the East Division.

SEASON RECAP
It was an up-and-down campaign for Mohawk, which never won more than three consecutive matches. The Mountaineers swept the season series against Humber, earned a road win over the St. Clair Saints, and pushed nationally ranked Cambrian to five sets in the second half of the season.

Loyalist enters the playoffs on a four-match winning streak, including three straight sweeps to close the regular season. Eight of the Lancers' 10 victories came in three sets, while they went 0-3 in matches that reached a fifth set. Loyalist finished 1-5 against the East Division's top five teams and 9-1 against the bottom five.

The Mountaineers and Lancers have rarely met in the postseason, facing each other only twice since the 2004-05 season. Their most recent playoff meeting came in 2013-14.
