Mountaineers curling teams conclude 2026 season

REGINA, Sask. – The Mohawk Mountaineers curling teams concluded their season at the 2026 CCAA/Curling Canada Championships on Friday, with neither team qualifying for the semifinals.

Both teams finished the tournament with 2-5 records.

The men entered play Friday needing two wins to keep their playoff hopes alive, but dropped a 7-5 decision to the Concordia Thunder and a 6-2 result to the Humber Hawks.

Mohawk trailed Concordia 2-1 after two ends before the Thunder scored in three consecutive ends to take a 5-1 lead. The Mountaineers responded with three in the sixth, but Concordia added two in the seventh. Mohawk, trailing by three in the eighth, managed just one point.

Against Humber, Mohawk opened with a single in the first end. After a blank second, the Hawks scored two in both the third and fourth ends to take a 4-1 lead, then added singles in the fifth and sixth. Mohawk scored one in the seventh, but could not generate a comeback in a blank eighth.

The Mohawk women opened the final day with a narrow 7-6 loss to PacWest before closing the tournament with an 11-3 win over the Assiniboine Cougars.

In the loss to PacWest, Mohawk took a 1-0 lead after one end. PacWest scored two in the second, while the Mountaineers tied the game 2-2 after three. PacWest added singles in the fourth and fifth, but Mohawk responded with four in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. PacWest tied the game in the seventh and secured the win with a single in the eighth.

In their final game, Mohawk scored seven in the first end against Assiniboine and led 9-0 after two ends. The Cougars replied with singles in the next three ends to cut the deficit to 9-3, but the Mountaineers added two in the sixth to seal the victory.

The 2026 season ends with both Mohawk teams capturing bronze at the OCAA Championships earlier in February, but finishing two wins shy of reaching a CCAA semifinal.
