Sharpshooting not enough; Mountaineers fall to Hawks

The Mountaineers men's basketball team fell 112-99 to the Humber Hawks.

Mohawk hit 13 three's in the first two quarters, but the Hawks held the 64-57 advantage at halftime.

The shooting from Mohawk would go cold in the second half despite the Mountaineers keeping it close.

Overall, the Mountaineers shot 51.6 per cent from the field and 51.5 per cent from beyond the arc.

"I think our ability to shoot the three is a very big strength for our team, especially being so young," said Mountaineers guard Rommel Calura. "Establishing the three will help open up more space on the floor and help give us the ability to attack more freely."

Mohawk's Daniel Graham continued his strong preseason with a team-high 23 points. The second-year guard said the team is just starting to get back into form after a lengthy off-season.

"Our team has played decent so far," Graham said. "It's been a while since we have all played, so we need that time to get used to playing again."

Calura added 22 points and eight rebounds for Mohawk, while younger brother Cale Calura came off the bench to score 13. Matt Foster was an impressive 7-of-10 from three for 21 points.

The Mountaineers return home to the DBARC on Nov. 20 when they host the Sheridan Bruins at 4 p.m.
