Mountaineers win by 44 in front of home crowd

Mohawk provides a show at home opener

Box Score (HAMILTON) – Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball picked up a convincing 110-66 home opener win over the Conestoga Condors.

In the first seven minutes of the game the two teams played back and forth basketball, but the Mountaineers would close out the final three minutes of the first quarter on a 17-0 run to lead 29-12.

Mohawk's run grew to 31-0 in the second quarter as Conestoga would finally score with 5:12 to go in the first half. The Mountaineers led the Condors 56-25 at half.

It was much of the same in the second half with Mohawk outscoring Conestoga by 12-points in the third quarter to extend their lead and hold on for the win.

As a team the Mountaineers shot 65.2 per cent from the field and 65 per cent from three.

Jerry Jr. Mercury (Scarborough, ON) was the leading scorer for Mohawk for the second consecutive game with 20 points and he added seven rebounds.

Charlie Hennessy (Windsor, ON) and Cale Calura (Hamilton, ON) were the other two starters to finish with double-digit scoring with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Off the bench Iverson Chong (Oakville, ON) added 17 and Harpreet Gill (Brampton, ON) scored 15.

Next up for the Mountaineers is a road matchup versus the Canadore Panthers on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
