No. 14 Mountaineers fall in overtime to Lions

Late game heroics not enough for Mohawk

Box Score SARNIA – The No. 14 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers ran out of steam in a 91-84 overtime loss to the Lambton Lions.

Mohawk fell behind early, allowing Lambton to get off to a 7-0 run. The Mountaineers would find themselves in a five-point deficit at halftime.

The Mountaineers would shoot 55.6 per cent from the field in the third quarter to take a 58-54 lead into the final 10 minutes.

With under a minute remaining in the contest Mohawk found themselves down by a point. They would turn the ball over and foul Lambton to the line. The Lions made one-of-two at the charity stripe.

Then with 2.9 seconds remaining Anthony Ragonetti (Hamilton, ON) threw a hail mary pass down the court to Harpreet Gill (Brampton, ON), who would make a layup to tie the game at 78-78 and send it to overtime.

The Mountaineers would be outscored 13-6 in overtime.

Gill had a career-high 19 points and nine rebounds in the game for Mohawk. Iverson Chong (Oakville, ON) provided 18 off the bench and Raivone Young (Halifax, NS) scored 13.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Jan. 20 when they play on the road versus the St. Clair Saints at 4 p.m.
