Shorthanded Mountaineers take down Bruins

Box Score BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team extended their win streak to three following a 76-52 victory over the Sheridan Bruins.

Mohawk was shorthanded in the contest with only six players playing more than 10 minutes. Despite the lack of depth, the Mountaineers defence stood strong holding the Bruins to 27 per cent shooting for the game.

Kendra Oliver's (Ajax, Ont.) 10 points in the opening quarter gave Mohawk a 21-11 advantage.

In the second quarter the Mountaineers continued to defend tough and extended their lead by 12 to go into halftime up 43-21. Maddie Anderson (Whitby, Ont.) knocked down three triples in the second to help the Mohawk offense.

The Mountaineers then held the Bruins to nine points in the third quarter as the lead continued to grow. Mohawk's largest lead of 34 came with 2:44 left in the fourth.

Oliver picked up her first double-double of the season with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds. Anderson finished the contest with 20 points on six made threes, and Tiffany Williams (Hamilton, Ont.) set a new career-high with 16 points and had a near double-double with eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers season continues on Oct. 30 when they travel to Toronto, Ont. to play the Humber Hawks. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
