Playoff Preview: No. 2 Mountaineers face Falcons in OCAA semifinals for second straight year

HAMILTON, Ont. – A rematch of last season's OCAA semifinal will take place Saturday at Mohawk as the No. 2 nationally ranked Mountaineers host the Fanshawe Falcons, with both teams once again eyeing a spot in the conference championship.
Mohawk is looking to keep its playoff run alive as it seeks a second straight trip to the championship game. Fanshawe, meanwhile, will aim to return to the top of the podium for the first time since 2019-20 after missing out on a medal last season.

PLAYOFF RECAP
The Mountaineers advanced in the playoffs with a 66-51 quarter-final win over the Lambton Lions. Mohawk led by two at halftime in a tightly contested game before locking down defensively in the second half to secure the victory.

The Falcons opened the playoffs with a 91-53 win over the Centennial Colts in the qualifying round. They followed that with a 67-52 road victory over the Seneca Sting in last weekend's quarter-final.

HISTORICAL MATCHUP
In last season's semifinal matchup, Mohawk jumped out to a nine-point lead in the opening quarter, but Fanshawe cut the deficit to five by halftime. The Mountaineers then held the Falcons to eight points in the third quarter and held on for a 69-60 victory.

In two meetings this season, Mohawk won 74-61 at home in November and again at Fanshawe, 69-49, to conclude the regular season. The year prior, the Mountaineers won the first matchup 74-73, while the Falcons claimed the second meeting 68-63 in overtime.
