Mountaineers sweep Knights on home court

Box Score HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team swept the Niagara Knights for a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) win. With the victory the Mountaineers bring their record to an even 2-2 after starting the season with two straight losses.

Mohawk showed dominance for the entirety of the match to earn the sweep.

The Mountaineers had their biggest lead of the first set at 15-10 and managed to hold off any Knights momentum to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set the Mountaineers again found their rhythm to lead 13-7. Niagara made pushes to try to even the match, but Mohawk continued to answer back. The Knights got the set within two at 21-19, but the Mountaineers scored four straight to go up 2-0.

Set three was much more even with Mohawk unable to really grab any breathing room. While the Mountaineers held onto slim leads the Knights kept hanging around with much better play than the first two sets. The two teams came even at 17-17, but it was all Mohawk the rest of the way for the clean sweep.

First-year Brecken Morrison (Stouffville, Ont.) led the way for the Mountaineers with 10 kills. Turner Neame (Hamilton, Ont.) did what he did defensively as the team libero with 11 digs. Mohawk also received solid setting from Noah Bouchard (Oakville, Ont.) and Cole Crowder (Milton, Ont.) with both finishing with 14 assists each.

The Mountaineers will look to keep up their winning ways on the road on Nov. 2 when they play the Redeemer Royals in Ancaster, Ont. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
