Mountaineers revenge Bruins on home court

Box Score HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team defeated the Sheridan Bruins 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22). When the two teams met earlier this season it was the Bruins who topped the Mountaineers.

Early in the opening set the two teams played back and forth until Mohawk took a 17-12 lead. Sheridan would get within five at 20-15, but the Mountaineers held strong to take a 1-0 match lead.

Set two was also close until the Bruins went up 18-13 after a small run. Mohawk would get within four, but Sheridan this time would close the door to bring the match even.

In set three it was the Mountaineers turn to find some momentum after the two teams traded points. Mohawk took a 17-12 lead and Sheridan would get as close as three before the Mountaineers took complete control to go up 2-1.

Set four saw the Bruins take a 12-8 lead early. Mohawk was able to quickly even it up at 15-15. The Mountaineers then went on to score four of the next five points to lead 19-16. A three-point cushion would be enough for Mohawk to close the door the rest of the way.

The Mountaineers now hold a 3-4 record on the season.

Mohawk will host the No. 4 nationally ranked Humber Hawks next with the match taking place Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.
