Mountaineers lose in four sets on the road

Box Score SUDBURY, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team dropped their first of two matches this weekend, losing 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 15-25, 18-25) to the Cambrian Shield.

In the opening set the Mountaineers fell behind 11-7 and called an early timeout. Mohawk would get within two points at 12-10, but could not overcome the deficit completely. The Shield then led 16-11, which led to another Mountaineer timeout. Out of the break, Cambrian scored nine of the next 12 points to take a 1-0 match lead.

It was a stronger start to set two for Mohawk as they held a three-point lead early. They would grow the advantage to seven to go up 12-5. The Mountaineers wouldn't lose their stride to close out the set and even the match 1-1.

Set three began with Mohawk finding themselves in another hole early, trailing Cambrian 11-4. The Shield eventually grew their lead to 10 as they took a 2-1 match lead.

In set four the Mountaineers found themselves fighting from behind again. While Mohawk kept the deficit close through the middle part of the set, Cambrian slowly grew their lead to five and it would only increase from there. The Shield continued to answer any Mountaineer push to end the match in the fourth set.
