PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Mountaineers matchup versus No. 11 Huskies for OCAA quarter-finals

Mohawk looks to punch its ticket to the OCAA Championship weekend

TORONTO – The Mohawk Mountaineers and No. 11 nationally ranked George Brown Huskies are set to matchup in the OCAA playoffs for the third time in six seasons.
 
The Matchup:
 
Mohawk earned their spot into the quarter-final round with a 13-point comeback victory over the Loyalist Lancers. The Mountaineers trailed by nine entering the fourth quarter, but with the home crowd behind them. completed the comeback.
 
George Brown defeated the Lambton Lions 91-77 to move on. The Huskies shot 44 per cent from the field and knocked down 12 threes.
 
Previous Matchup and History:
 
This will be the third time in six seasons the Mountaineers and Huskies will meet in the OCAA playoffs, with George Brown winning the previous two.
 
The Huskies defeated the Mountaineers in both the 2017-18 and 2022-23 playoffs. Last year, George Brown's win came in the OCAA semi-final, relegating Mohawk to the bronze medal game.
 
However, the Mountaineers have had some success versus the Huskies, albeit in exhibition play. In January 2023, Mohawk defeated George Brown 108-106 in overtime.
 
The two met again this past January in an exhibition game that saw the Mountaineers come out victorious, 89-77. Raivone Young (Halifax, NS) led the way for Mohawk with 21 points.
