Six recruits commit to Mohawk women’s volleyball for 2025-26 season

HAMILTON, Ont. – In preparation for her second season at the helm of the Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball program, head coach Jenny Pellegrino has announced the commitment of six new recruits for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Joining the Mountaineers are Avery McConkey (Stratford, Ont.), Grace Dockstator (Smithville, Ont.), Kyrah Cameron (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.), Reese Peltier, Addison Larock (Eatonia, Sask.) and Destiny Reimer (Saskatoon, Sask.).

With a goal of building a strong team culture with good humans, Pellegrino said each of the athletes bring their own uniqueness which is what makes this recruiting class so special.

McConkey returns to the court after serving as an assistant coach with the Mountaineers in 2024-25. A former varsity athlete with the McMaster Marauders, McConkey appeared in 18 matches between 2018-21, recording 20 kills. She also currently serves as an assistant coach with the Smash Raiders 17U Boom team.

Prior to her post-secondary career, the 6'1 outside hitter starred at Stratford Central Secondary School and with the Stratford Stingers Volleyball Club, earning team MVP honours in 2015 and 2016. She was also named Stratford Central's 2017 Female Athlete of the Year and competed for Team Ontario and Team Ontario Elite.

"Having been part of our coaching staff, Avery played a key role in shaping our team culture," said Pellegrino. "As a student-athlete, she'll lead by example, bring valuable OUA experience, and do whatever it takes to win."

Dockstator and Cameron are both transfer athletes with the former having played with the Centennial Colts and the latter having spent time with the Niagara Knights.

During the 2024-25 season, Dockstator appeared in 17 matches for the Colts, contributing 18 kills, 36 assists, 25 service aces and 32 digs. A graduate of West Niagara Secondary School, she played club volleyball for Mountain Volleyball Club, earning the OVA Award of Excellence twice. She also earned a silver medal at the Alberta Indigenous Games.

"Grace adds depth and strength to our attack on the outside," said Pellegrino. "She's a powerful hitter and a tough server."

Cameron joins the Mountaineers after spending 2022-24 with the Knights, where she appeared in 32 matches and earned CCAA National Scholar honours twice. She is a graduate of Eden High School and competed with the Pakmen Volleyball Club.

"Kyrah is a true team player," said Pellegrino. "With her OCAA experience, she knows the level of effort and commitment it takes to compete."

Peltier joins Mohawk from Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory and London Volleyball Club. She will be graduating from Lord Dorchester Secondary School.

"Reese is competitive and will do whatever it takes to put the team first," said Pellegrino. "She has fought hard to recover from an injury and that work has paid off. It's the fire and passion that makes her an asset."

Both Larock and Reimer are out-of-province recruits, coming to Mohawk from Saskatchewan.

Larock, a 5'10 setter from Eatonioa, Sask., is a graduate of Eaton School and a product of the South East Alberta Volleyball Club. She led her team to several local tournament championships and is known for her smart decision-making and strong blocking presence.

"Addison is a small-town girl with a big heart and has great instincts on the court," said Pellegrino. "She's a smart setter and a strong presence at the net".

Reimer comes to Mohawk from Saskatoon Christian School and the JCVC Volleyball Club, most recently spending two years at Millar College.

"Destiny is someone with a strong work ethic, brings family values, and pushes her teammates to be genuine and good humans," said Pellegrino.

The six recruits will begin studying at Mohawk in September with McConkey studying Advanced Police Studies, Dockstator enrolling in Early Childhood Education, Cameron will study Health, Wellness and Fitness, Peltier will pursue Business, Larock will focus on Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees, and Reimer will enter Art and Design Foundations.
