HAMILTON, Ont. — After splitting the first two sets with the No. 15 nationally ranked Cambrian Shield, the Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team fell in four sets, 3-1.

Mohawk got off to a slow start in the first set, as they faced an early 7-2 deficit. The Mountaineers could not climb out of the early hole, as the Shield would win the first set 25-13. 

In the second set, it would be a back and forth affair as Mohawk and Cambrian traded points. The Mountaineers finally found some separation late in the set as they scored the final three points to come out on top, 25-21. 

Despite Mohawk leading the third set 7-3 early on, Cambrian got got on a five point run to level the set at 9-9. After a long stint of the two sides exchanging points, the Shield found their groove late, scoring five straight again to win the set, 25-20. 

In the final set, Mohawk got off to a strong start yet again, leading 6-2 early and holding onto the lead for a majority of the set. Once again, however, the Shield worked their way back into the set as they scored the final two points to escape with a final of 25-23. 

Brecken Morrison (Stouffville, Ont.) led Mohawk in kills with 18. Noach Bouchard (Oakville, Ont.) led the way in assists with 30 and Turner Neame (Hamilton, Ont.) - the Mountaineers all-time career digs leader playing in his final regular season home match - had 22 digs to lead the team. 

Mohawk concludes the home portion of their 2024-25 schedule as they will be on the road for their final two matches. Their next matchup will be January 30 when they travel to Toronto, Ont. to play the No. 3 nationally ranked Humber Hawks, with the match beginning at 8 p.m.
