Playoff Preview: Mountaineers set to race Colts in OCAA Qualifying Round

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team is back in the OCAA Playoffs for the third consecutive year and will look to advance past the first round for the second straight year.

Mohawk, seeded third in the OCAA West Division, will host the sixth-seeded Centennial Colts from the East Division. The game will tip off at 1 p.m. on February 15 at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.

The Matchup:

The Mountaineers enter the playoffs with an 11-5 record. Three of their five losses came against nationally ranked opponents. Mohawk's season ended with a loss to the Fanshawe Falcons, but the team was dominant at home, posting a 7-1 record, with their only loss coming at the hands of the No. 10-ranked Niagara Knights.

Centennial finished the regular season at 5-9 and enters the playoffs on a four-game losing streak. The Colts posted a 2-9 record against the top five teams in the East Division.

Last Meeting:

The last time these teams met in the playoffs was during the 2017-18 season. In that matchup, the Mountaineers, as the home team, defeated the Colts 85-65. Mohawk went on to claim the OCAA bronze medal that year.

Ahead of the 2022-23 season, Mohawk and Centennial also faced off in an exhibition game, with the Mountaineers securing a dominant 79-27 victory.
