Playoff Preview: Mountaineers men’s volleyball gear up for Panthers

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team will head to North Bay, Ont. for the first round of the OCAA playoffs as they matchup with the Canadore Panthers.

Mohawk enters playoffs as the OCAA West Division sixth seed and Canadore locked in the third seed in the East Division. The match will take place February 8 at 5 p.m.

The Matchup:

The Mountaineers concluded the 2024-25 regular season with an 8-10 record. It was a slow start to the year for Mohawk after losing five of their first eight games of the year. They would end the first half of the season 5-6. The second half was similar for Mohawk as they played to a 3-4 record.

Canadore went 13-5 in the east, tying Centennial for the second-best record in the division, but finishing third in the tiebreaker. The Panthers started 3-0, but proceeded to lose four of their next five. Canada would then win eight of their next nine to conclude the season.

Last Meeting:

The Mountaineers and Panthers played an exhibition game prior to the regular season; however, the game was suspended after two sets due to unforeseen circumstances. They would split the two sets in the match.

The last time the two met in a playoff game was the 2021-22 season when Mohawk also travelled to North Bay to play Canadore in the OCAA quarter-final round. The Panthers won that match 3-2 (16-25, 20-25, 27-25, 25-16, 11-15).
