CCAA Semi-Final Preview: No. 15 Mountaineers matchup versus No. 12 Lightning

FREDERICTON, NB – The No. 15 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team has secured their spot in the CCAA Semi-Finals for just the second time in program history, the first since the 1989-90 season.

The Mountaineers will take on the No. 12 ranked St. Mary's Lightning, with the winner advancing to the championship game. The contest will tip-off at 5 p.m. (ET) on March 13.

The Matchup:

In the opening round of the 2025 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship tournament, Mohawk triumphed over the No. 3 ranked VIU Mariners in the quarter-finals. The Mountaineers led wire-to-wire, securing a 62-57 victory. Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB) was a standout performer, recording a game-high 26 points, while Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) added 14 points and 16 rebounds to the win.

St. Mary's reached the CCAA Championship tournament after earning the silver medal in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. The Lightning advanced to the CCAA semi-finals following an 82-67 win over the MSVU Mystics in the quarter-finals.

Last Meeting:

This will mark the first-ever meeting between the Mountaineers and Lightning.
