HAMILTON, Ont. – The Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball team has moved into the top spot in the CCAA national rankings following its ninth consecutive victory this past week.
The Mountaineers, who captured the OCAA championship last season, have opened the 2025-26 campaign with a perfect 9-0 record. Mohawk is averaging a plus-30 point differential and has won every game by at least 10 points.
Mohawk's dominance has continued into the new year. During the holiday break, the Mountaineers earned two non-conference wins, defeating the Durham Lords 85-26 before setting a program record with 118 points in a 62-point victory over the Georgian Grizzlies. In their return to conference play, Mohawk posted a 90-56 win over the Redeemer Royals.
The Mountaineers opened the season ranked fourth nationally and held that position for three weeks before climbing to No. 2. After three weeks in the second spot, Mohawk ascended to No. 1 and is one of two remaining undefeated teams in the CCAA.
Mohawk will look to maintain its unbeaten record with a two-game road trip this weekend. The Mountaineers visit the Lambton Lions in Sarnia, Ont., on Jan. 16 at 6 p.m., before travelling to Windsor, Ont., on Jan. 17 for a 1 p.m. matchup against the St. Clair Saints.
