CCAA Quarter-Final Preview: Mountaineers face Huskies

NANAIMO, B.C. – The Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team will open play at the 2026 CCAA National Championship on Wednesday, facing the ACAC champion Keyano Huskies in a quarter-final matchup at 4 p.m. ET.

In the eight-team tournament, Mohawk is seeded third on one side of the bracket, while Keyano holds the No. 2 seed. The Mountaineers will be designated as the away team.

HOW THEY GOT HERE
Mohawk secured its spot at nationals with an 82-80 semifinal win over the St. Clair Saints at the OCAA championship. The Mountaineers went on to earn conference silver, falling to the Humber Hawks in the final.

In the OCAA playoffs, Mohawk defeated Algonquin in the qualifying round, Centennial in overtime in the quarterfinals, and St. Clair in the semifinals. The Mountaineers posted a 13-5 regular season conference record.

Keyano qualified for nationals with a 66-63 semi-final win over SAIT before capturing the ACAC title with an 86-79 victory against Lakeland.

The Huskies finished the regular season at 16-4, placing second in the ACAC North Division.

HISTORICAL MATCHUP
Mohawk and Keyano have met once before at the CCAA Championship. The Huskies defeated the Mountaineers 102-91 in a 2016 bronze semi-final.

The teams last met in an exhibition game in 2024, when Mohawk earned an 86-72 win in Hamilton.
